Motorcyclist killed in York County Memorial Day collision

YORK COUNTY, S.C. – According to The Herald, a motorcyclist was killed and a driver injured in a collision outside of Rock Hill Monday evening.

Trooper Joe Hovis of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened on Lesslie Highway south of Rock Hill around 7 p.m.

Michael O’Donnell, 28, of Rock Hill, was riding north on Lesslie Highway on a motorcycle when he collided with a 2001 Chevrolet. O’Donnell was ejected from the motorcycle.

Sabrina Gast, York County Coroner, said O’Donnell was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Officials said EMS, sheriff’s deputies, troopers, firefighters, and the coroner’s office all arrived at the scene.

Hovis said the driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill with injuries, though their condition has not been released.

The accident remains under investigation.
