Crash Alert: Body of tow truck driver recovered

CHARLESTON, SC – In an accident on Wednesday morning, a tow truck driver was knocked from the Dan Holt Bridge in Charleston.

The tow truck driver was on the scene of another accident at about 9:50 a.m. with law enforcement when a pickup struck his tow truck. A Sheriff’s deputy, Capt. Roger Antonio, was seriously injured and remains in the hospital.

The US Coast Guard was able to recover the body at about 1:45 p.m. on Thursday. The driver was identified as George Ellis, 45, of North Charleston.

The accident remains under investigation.
