COLUMBIA, SC – Twelve police officers and two firefighters were injured in the line of duty during protests last night in Columbia, reports ABC News 4.

Over a dozen people were taken into custody as a result of the violence.

Seven of the officers experienced heat exhaustion. Three of the twelve injured police officers were assaulted and two received facial lacerations caused by broken glass being thrown.

One officer remains in the hospital at this time.

The two firefighters were injured by thrown objects but were able to return to work after a medical evaluation.
