Truck driver charged with leaving the scene of fatal motorcycle crash in Abbeville

ABBEVILLE, SC. – A utility truck driver was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident after a motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Abbeville. 

The crash happened just before 6:00 p.m. on SC-20 near Hill Road on Thursday, May 14th. The truck driver, 25-year-old Daniel Weichmann of Abbeville, was charged with felony DUI involving death and leaving the scene of an accident involving death. 

The victim was identified as, John Hall, 67, of Abbeville. WYFF News 4 reports that Hall was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle east on SC Highway 20 when Weichmann’s utility truck crossed the center line while heading west, striking Hall’s motorcycle head-on. 

Hall was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Abbeville County Coroner’s Office. Weichmann reportedly left the scene, but later returned. He was uninjured in the crash, and is currently being held at the Abbeville County Detention Center where he is awaiting bond.
