
LEE COUNTY, S.C. – According to WLTX, one person was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer on I-20 Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred in the eastbound lane of I-20 just before Bishopville around 10:30 a.m., according to Master Trooper David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Police say a Mercedes SUV and a tractor-trailer were driving eastbound through a construction area. Troopers say at this point, the Mercedes collided with the back of the tractor-trailer and then hit the median.
The driver of the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene. The front passenger in the Mercedes was taken to a local hospital.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
All drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
The coroner has not yet released the identity of the deceased.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation of the accident.
