
CHARLESTON, S.C. – According to WCSC, a motorist died on Friday from injuries sustained in a collision with a Charleston County deputy’s patrol car.
The crash occurred on Old Towne Road, near North Hillside Road, at 5:58 a.m. last Thursday. A 2007 Dodge Nitro SUV was driving south on Old Towne Road, while a Charleston County deputy’s patrol car headed north. As the driver of the Dodge attempted to make a left turn in front of the patrol car, the two vehicles collided, according to Trooper Matt Southern. The SUV overturned in the crash.
Southern said the driver of the SUV was not wearing a seatbelt, but the trooper was.
The driver of the Dodge was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries. The trooper was also taken to the hospital.
The deputy did not sustain life-threatening injuries in the accident, according to Captain Roger Antonio with the sheriff’s office.
