
PORT ROYAL, S.C. – According to The Island Packet, a 22-year-old man died after crashing his motorcycle into a tree on Monday.
According to Beaufort County Coroner’s Office Chief Deputy David Ott, Steven R. McKinzie, 22, of Beaufort, was traveling north on a motorcycle on Old Shell Road when he attempted to pass a vehicle on the double yellow line. McKinzie is believed to have overcorrected when he saw another motorist heading toward him.
McKinzie then lost control and crashed into an oak tree. He was pronounced dead the scene at 3:22 p.m.
McKinzie was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
