Driver Killed After Getting Rear-Ended By Tractor Trailer in Greenville County

The Details:

On Monday, April 3, around 12:16 p.m., a crash occurred along Augusta Road. Troopers are investigating the crash that left one person dead, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

According to troopers, the victim was stopped at a traffic light along the intersection of Augusta Road and Garrison Road when a tractor-trailer crashed into the back of it. The victim died shortly after the crash and has been identified as 53-year-old Vickie Carolina Johnson by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head and neck.

A Personal Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:

We are so sorry to hear of this tragic accident, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Vickie.

It is frustrating to continue to see such preventable truck wrecks occurring every day. At Hammack Law Firm, we advocate for truck safety. This collision could have been avoided by the mandating of Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS) in all commercial motor vehicles. The simple installation of an automatic braking system could have prevented this unfortunate loss. Now another family is grieving the loss of a loved one because the trucking lobby is powerful and has resisted efforts to make its industry safer as a whole.

Due to the details of this crash, fault seems to be tied to the driver of the tractor-trailer. As a result, surviving family members may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim if it can be determined that negligence played a role in the death of their loved one. They may also be able to recover damages to compensate them for the pain and suffering of losing a loved one.

After losing a loved one so unexpectedly, you shouldn’t have to deal with the complexity of filing a wrongful death claim. Our experienced team of attorneys at The Hammack Law Firm can help navigate and expedite the process so you are not left to bear the burden on your own. With a thorough understanding of South Carolina’s laws governing injuries and wrongful death, our personal injury lawyers are ready to help you through every step.
