Clemson University Student Charged After Deadly Car Crash
March 17, 2023 – Paul Hammack
The Details:
On Wednesday, March 15, a pedestrian was hit by a car. The Clemson Police Department has since charged a Clemson University student with being in connection to the deadly crash that killed the pedestrian.
The victim died at the scene of the accident and has been identified as Robert Barrett, 68, of Clemson. According to Chief Deputy Coroner Andrew Wilson, he was hit a little after 8:45 p.m. on Highway 93 at Perimeter Road.
According to police, the student was charged with DUI, and the crash remains under investigation by the Clemson Police Department.
A Personal Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:
Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Barrett’s family and friends in the aftermath of this tragic accident. Drinking and driving is one of the most irresponsible choices a person can make.
Due to the DUI charge, fault and negligence appear to be clear in this matter. Therefore, family members of the victim may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim and obtain punitive damages. If the victim was also the breadwinner in this family, damages for loss of support and future earnings can also be recovered.
