Car Crash Involving Deputy In Greenville County
June 29, 2022 – Paul Hammack
The Details:
According to Highway Patrol, a van caught fire after a collision with a Greenville deputy. The driver was flown to the Augusta burn center while the deputy was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The van was reportedly attempting to turn left onto Augusta Road from Valley Brook Road when the accident happened. The deputy was responding to a call when their vehicle collided with the left side of the van, quickly followed by the van catching fire.
The accident caused a detour along Augusta Road, which lasted several hours, rerouting traffic around the perimeter of the site of the accident.
A Personal Injury Lawyer’s Perspective:
Accidents occur in a blink of an eye, and it can be hard to react appropriately or safely, which is why it is imperative to be aware of your surroundings and undistracted at all times when behind the wheel.
Highway Patrol and the Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team are still conducting the investigation of the accident. As of the last update, neither party has been found or described as at-fault. Due to the lack of public information regarding the accident, we do not fully know if the van’s left turn was abrupt enough to cause the collision or if the deputy was simply distracted by responding to the simultaneous call.
Regardless of fault, it is always unfortunate to report on a motor vehicle collision—especially one in which an involved party needs to be flown to a burn center better equipped to handle the injuries caused.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the van driver and the deputy involved in this preventable collision. The Hammack Law Firm is dedicated to making our roads safer for the traveling public and representing the victims of these terrible accidents. We must hold negligent drivers responsible for their reckless behavior in the hope that all drivers make better decisions regarding safety moving forward.
